FAQs: Agentic FinOps Platform: Ask Your Cloud Bill with Iris

Question 1

What is an agentic FinOps platform?

Accepted Answer

An agentic FinOps platform is cloud cost software with an AI agent that does more than show dashboards: it answers plain-English questions about spend, explains why a number moved, recommends what to do, and routes the fix to the right team, with people approving actions. The industry's informal maturity ladder runs from dashboards (L0), to chatting with your costs (L1), to an agent that acts with approval by creating tickets and alerts (L2), to a closed loop that executes changes within guardrails (L3).

Question 2

What is Iris?

Accepted Answer

Iris is Opslyft's AI assistant for cloud cost. You ask a question in plain English, such as which teams grew spend fastest this month, and Iris answers with the figures, the root causes behind them, and the recommended next steps, drawing on Opslyft's allocated cost data across AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, Kubernetes, Snowflake, and AI providers. It opens from anywhere in the app with the Command-K shortcut.

Question 3

Does Opslyft's AI change my infrastructure automatically?

Accepted Answer

No. Iris answers, explains, and recommends; Monitor detects anomalies and explains their root cause; and Tickets routes the recommended fix to the owning team in Jira, ServiceNow, or Asana. Engineers approve and apply changes in their own tools. On the agentic maturity ladder that is L1 and L2: chat with your costs, and act with approval. Opslyft does not silently resize or delete resources.

Question 4

How is this different from a chatbot on top of a dashboard?

Accepted Answer

A chatbot answers from whatever the dashboard shows. Iris answers from allocated data in which every dollar has an owner, a resource, and a rule behind it, so its answers carry root causes rather than totals, and it hands the answer to a workflow, a ticket with an owner, rather than leaving it in the chat. The difference is between a faster way to read a report and a shorter path from question to fix.

Question 5

Can I use other AI assistants with my Opslyft data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Opslyft publishes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets any MCP-compatible assistant, such as Claude or an internal agent, query your live cloud and AI cost data through the open standard. Iris is the assistant built into the product; the MCP server brings the same data to the assistants your teams already use.

Question 6

What questions can Iris answer?

Accepted Answer

Anything the allocated data can support: which teams or customers grew spend fastest and why, what a feature or namespace costs, why a service's bill spiked last Tuesday, where commitment coverage is low, which recommendations are open and what they are worth, and how AI token spend compares to the compute it runs on. Each answer includes the root causes and the next step, not only the number.

Question 7

Who uses Opslyft?

Accepted Answer

Opslyft is used by companies including Freshworks, Zenoti, LambdaTest, Groww, HDFC Life, Xactly, Safe Security, Disprz, Innovaccer, and Purplle. It is a FinOps Foundation member and a Linux Foundation silver member, and is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certified. Published results include 40 hours a month of manual allocation returned to Disprz, $200,000 saved on GCP in one month for Purplle, and a 75 percent reduction in unattributed cost for a fintech.
